I want to thank Perry Cohen for his time. Our interview lasted more than an hour and a half. His enthusiasm and knowledge kept us talking. I hope to have a podcast of the interview on our Web site soon in an MP3 or WMA format.
Cohen is just one example of selfless people with Parkinson's disease who want to give of themselves with the hope it will improve somebody's life down the road. It has been more than a decade since Cohen's diagnosis. If a cure for Parkinson's disease came in the next few years he could very well benefit from it. However, Cohen and people like him do a lot of their selfless work for people who will hear a Parkinson's diagnosis this year or next. He wants them to have better answers.
If you do not feel like attending a support group, it may still be important for you to go. You may not actually get so much out of if. However, you may sit next to someone who is alone, troubled, or scared. Perhaps your experience with a medication, or your recommendation of a physical therapist will be just what someone needs. You may also find that giving a little bit of yourself is just what you needed.
Sincerely,
Matt Nilsen, Editor
