President Bush's veto on funding for stem cell research was answered by an angry and frustrated public outcry. Some of the backlash has been directed at churches and people who oppose stem cell research based on their religious convictions.
Reading about Msgr. Thomas Hartman, a catholic priest living with PD, in this story, will certainly remind some people about the issue, and may kindle some internal conflict. Many will feel grateful for the large sum of money that his efforts helped raise to fight PD. On the other hand, his life’s work is deeply entrenched in a church that many PWPs perceive as an obstacle to funding future research.
