Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, the efforts of a group of health care professionals, and some funding, you can now train to be a Parkinson’s caregiver online. The Northwest Parkinson’s Foundation hosts the Parkinson's Training for Caregivers Project at http://www.parkinsonseducator.com/. The tutorial includes eight lessons that highlight treatment, safety issues, communication, sleeping, and mood, as well as other topics of interest to caregivers.
Many people have one primary caregiver, and this training would be beneficial to many of them, especially if they are new. It could also help secondary caregivers. We know many families living with Parkinson’s where a child or other relative will fly in to relieve the primary caregiver. For a distant person who needs training, this Web site provides a convenient introduction or refresher.
