According to an interview that we conducted last year about CoQ10, trans-CoQ10 is a natural form of the enzyme, while cis-CoQ10 is more synthetic. Some medical experts suspect that the natural form of CoQ10 is more effective, but they do not have much scientific evidence of that claim yet.
Some physicians encourage their patients to take CoQ10, while others wait for more science. Many physicians tell their patients that taking it could not hurt. Please consult with your physician prior to supplementing with it.
There have been a few moderately strong studies that have hinted that CoQ10 may be effective at slowing the decline of people with Parkinson's disease. The most positive results appeared in the Archives of Neurology in 2002. The physicians conducting the study concluded that patients who took 1,200 mgs of Coenzyme Q10 daily experienced a 44% slower functional deterioration than those that took a placebo.
