For those of you that have been reading my articles here on Parkinson’s hopeDIGEST, you know the great relationship I have with my neurologist. Last week, I was due for my checkup with my doctor and almost as an after thought, I asked if he would consider doing an interview for Parkinson’s hopeDIGEST? His speedy response was, “Of course!”
Not only will I be asking some tough questions but also I will work with a photographer (Mindy Schwartz) who will be snapping photos of us in his office. I’m planning several articles out of this interview and I hope that he will be able to answer questions that are on YOUR minds! My interview will take place on June 24, 2008. If you have a question that you would like a neurologist to answer, please send it to my e-mail address: TSIM681157@aol.com, and I will make sure I ask the question.
What types of questions am I planning to ask? I am trying to think of questions that will be helpful for the entire Parkinson’s disease community. Among some of the issues covered will be:
- FMLA paperwork and the neurologist, why charge the admin fee to complete it?
- What is the one thing a neurologist would like to tell his or her patients?
- What are the traits and signs of a good neurologist?
- At what point should a patient consider Deep Brain Stimulation?
- What are the five things you would like your patients to know?
And so on. Please be thinking about any questions you may have. I’m sure he will be a valuable source of information. Who knows? Perhaps it will encourage you to ask your own neurologist the same questions. Remember, communication between you and your doctor is key.
