Introduction to Activa® Therapy Event
Today I attended an event for Parkinson's patients presented by Medtronic, makers of Activa therapy. The event was held at the Marriott University Park Hotel in Salt Lake City, Utah. I highly recommend you take the opportunity to attend one of these events put on by Medtronic. Click here and here for information about upcoming events scheduled throughout the country. The information presented was extremely useful and informative.
At this presentation, John, Steffens, M.D., Paul Renner, M.D., both neurologists, and Paul House, M.D., a neurosurgeon, spoke to a group of Parkinson's patients and caregivers. They gave some general information about PD, gave a description of the current therapy options including medications and surgical options, touched on some of the research into promising therapies, and gave a detailed description of a surgical procedure know as deep brain stimulation, or Activa therapy.
The information was presented in a straightforward manner and was devoid of any hype or pressure toward Activa therapy product.
Following their presentation, a patient who is currently using Activa therapy shared her story. She talked about living with PD prior to deep brain stimulation and how the surgery had made a dramatic improvement in her life. She also told listeners about the surgical procedure and some of the follow-up care she had received.
