One of the biggest and most inspirational Parkinson's community events is coming up this April. Mark your calendars now and consider attending the Parkinson's Unity Walk in New York City April 26. All you need to do is get yourself to Central Park. The Unity Walk organizers will take care of the rest.
Each year thousands of people with Parkinson's, their family members, and friends join together in a gesture of support, hope, and activism. There are speeches, presentations, and booths all meant to encourage people living with Parkinson's disease and educate them about living better with the condition.
The time spent walking is largely symbolic. However, the results of the Unity Walk are not. The 13 previous events have raised more than $7 million to fund PD research. Whether or not you attend you can raise funds for the event. Click on www.unitywalk.org to register for the event or learn how to participate in fund-raising.
Perhaps the greatest benefit of participating in the Unity Walk is the sense of community. As one man explains in the video below, "You realize you're not alone."
